The inspiration of the St. Jude Runs began in Peoria, IL, in 1982, when Mike McCoy and Gene Pratt collaborated on a way to raise money for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital – their favorite charity.
They first envisioned driving to St. Jude in Memphis, and then running back relay-style to Peoria, home of the Jim and Trudy Maloof St. Jude Midwest Affiliate Clinic. Now, many Runs later, their vision has become one of the foremost charity running events in the nation, having raised over $21 million and counting.
SAVE THE DATE for the 40th annual St. Jude Memphis to Peoria Run: July 13 – 17, 2021
The health and well-being of all St. Jude Runners and Participants is our #1 priority. The event is consistently being evaluated to consider the most appropriate safety considerations. At this point, we do plan to travel to Memphis in motorhomes and run back, similar to Pre-COVID years. Co-founder Mike McCoy is in contact with St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital to evaluate event access to the campus prior to our departure to Peoria. Further safety considerations during the return trip (ex. food, motorhome occupancy, run group size/spacing) continue to be defined and will be communicated in early 2021. The Bus Trip is currently being evaluated and a decision will be made in February on details and plans. If you do not feel comfortable registering for an in-person event at this time, we have a Virtual Runner option available similar to 2020. Participants will have the ability to switch their participation manner between “in-person” and “virtual” until June 1, 2021.
